Why does Outlook 2003 reset my display color option from 32 bit back to 8 bit
every time it loads. (Dell system, WindowsXP, Office 2003 Pro, N-vidia driver)

I'd guess this is not Outlook, but some other program associated with
Outlook. Do you have any Outlook addins installed? Any anti-virus or
anti-spam software that checks your mail?

While I've never heard of this happening with Norton before, you might try
disabling Norton's scanning of email and see if that fixes the problem.

I upgraded to Norton AV 2005 just in case. No help. Tried turning off the
e-mail scan with no help also. By the way, when I use Outlook Express, the
problem does not occur, only with Outlook 2003.

Someone here just pointed out to me that there's a "Compatibility" tab on
the properties of shortcuts (right-click, select "Properties") that allows
you to make any program run in 256 color mode. If that's set on a shortcut
that starts Outlook, it might be your problem.

Thanks Jeff, that's exactly what the problem was. I turned off the 256 color
mode and the program no longer resets my display color options.

Thanks again,
Dave Caldwell
