Outlook 2003

We have upgraded from Office 97. It seems we lost the functionality in
Outlook to attach a file (shared office file) as an icon.

How does one attached a shared office file as an attachment in Outlook 2003?

Ok, that much we do know, however, when you click the paper clip icon or
insert file, one of the drop down menu for 'insert' had the option to "Insert
as Icon". In Outlook 2003 this is no longer available.

I have engineers that used this function to attached shared excel files that
they would email to the group. The attached excel icon was actual a link to
the shared excel file, which allowed them to update that excel sheet on a
shared network drive.

They do not link inserting as a hyperlink, because it has no sort
functionality when view files.

Plz help...
