Outlook 2007 and Backup?

H

happy37

Hi all

Please could you let me know what would be the best method to restore an
already backed up Oulook.pst file back into the Inbox in Outlook 2007?

In other words, how do I go about restoring my backed up emails back into
Outlook 2007?

Does it matter if the “Personal Folders Backup†programme is installed or
not? - is it needed or not?

Please advise me of the best method to use.

Thanks for your help - all responses gratefully received.

Within OL, Open the data file then copy data from this to your default data
file, close it when finished.
Or, with OL closed locate the backup, presumably named 'Outlook backup.pst'
rename it eg old.pst, then open it within OL. If neccessary copy data to the
default file, but you can leave this data file open.

Hi DL

Many thanks for your reply - as I have not used Outlook before today for any
of my emails, please could you clarify what you mean by your responses.

What do you mean by “If necessary copy data to the default file, but you can
leave this data file open.â€

What would the default file be? Please let me know - I will try your steps
and will post back in due course as to how I get on.

I believe what DL is telling you is this:

From Outlook, click on Tools and then Account Settings. Go to the Data Files
tab and click on Add. Browse for your PST backup file and click on OK to add
it to Outlook.

Now, your backup PST file folders should appear in the left portion of the
Outlook window. You can then copy any/all messages from your backup folders
to your "main" inbox.

When you are done, you can either leave the backup PST folders alone or you
can go back to Tools - Account Settings - Data Files and remove the backup
PST entry.

It does not matter if you have Personal Folders Backup installed or not. But
it's a good thing to regularly backup your PST file in case of file
corruption. You shold also copy it somewhere other than your PC in case your
disk drive crashes.

Hope that helps.

That about said it all :)

Hi Tim, DL and others...

Just popping back to let you all know that your advice worked soundly and
that the backup procedure has all gone well.

I am now using Microsoft Outlook 2007 for my email and all is working well.

Another query, though - In Outlook Express, there is an ability to just
“Send†an email, just to “Receiveâ€, or to “Send and Receive Allâ€

Can this be set up in Outlook by a setting or Registry tweak as sometimes I
only like to just send or receive, but not both.

Outlook 2007 only has “Send/Receive All†and “Send Allâ€. Can I not just
receive email in Outlook 2007 like Outlook Express?

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks for your help - all responses gratefully received.

Hi Milly

Thanks for your reply.

When I just send an email via Send All, Outlook still shows 2 tasks, sending
and receiving, not just the one task. (sending) - I only want it to send my
emails, not receive!?

When I ask Outlook to receive/download all of my emails via Send/Receive
All, Outlook still shows 2 tasks, sending and receiving, not just the one
task. (receiving)
I only want it to receive/download my emails, not send!?

Or, simply, have I missed something?

My copy of Outlook 2007 only has Send/Receive All and Send All. Can I not
just send or just receive email in Outlook 2007 like Outlook Express?

Thanks again...
