Hi, one of my clients has an unusual issue.

When the user tries to open any .wav file that is attached to an email they
get “Cannot create file: voicemail.wav. Right-click the folder you want to
create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check
your permissions for the folderâ€

When they try to copy any .wav attachment to a file outside of outlook they
get “Cannot save the attachment. Cannot create file: voicemail.wav.
Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click
Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.â€

When they right-click and then preview any .wav attachment they get “This
file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer:
Windows Media Player Rich Preview Handler to open this file in it’s own
program double-click it.

Other attachments behave normally.

Microsoft Office Diagnostics found no problems.

Media player is version 11.0.6000.6344

I have this same problem in outlook 2007 on a vista OS. The problem,
as described, started happening to me two weeks ago.

I have had this happen before. I didn’t work to hard too fix it, but a
hard drive failure and then a reinstall fixed everything. Can anyone
help me avoid that.

I sell houses and use Vonage for my phone service and all of my voice
messages are emailed to me as Wave files. I get them on my windows
mobile device and they still play. Most importantly, I can email them to
clients as needed and they still work.

I was having the same issue. The fix is to find your outlook temporary
folder and delete the contents.
Using Vista and Outlook 2007-
My folder was located here:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.Outlook\9HJ1RE61

I closed Outlook> Deleted the contents of that folder and I can hear my
voicemails once again!

Here is the instructions that lead me to correcting the problem-

Good Luck!

---- Error opening attachments / Cleaning out the Temporary Outlook
Files folder ----

When opening an attachment directly from within Outlook you could get
an error message saying that it cant create the file and to that you
need check the permissions on the folder you want to save it in. In most
cases the permissions on the folder isnt the issue but the fact that
the folder is full. When you open an attachment directly from within
Outlook it will first save a copy to a subfolder of the Temporary
Internet Files folder. Cleaning out the folder will solve the issue.

Unfortunately this is easier said than done. The subfolder name Outlook
creates (on installation of Outlook) in the Temporary Internet Files
folder is quite random. It always starts with OLK but is followed by 2
random numbers or letters. Also by default you cannot simply browse to
the folder to clean it out. Getting to the Temporary Outlook Folder can
still be accomplished in 2 easy steps though.

Step 1: Locate the folder
The folder location is stored in the registry in the following key;

Outlook 97
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 98
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.5\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2000
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2002/XP
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2003
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security
Outlook 2007
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security

Step 2: Get to the folder
Open the OutlookSecureTempFolder registry key from the location
provided in Step 1.
Copy the path from the key.
Open Explorer
Paste the address in the Address Bar and press Enter
