Have a user machine that autostarts Outlook upon user login. I want
to stop this behavior. However, I can't find the mechanism causing
the autostart. There is nothing in the user's or All Users startup
folder nor anything in the HKCU or HKLM
Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key. As it happens, the
same issue applies to Autocad on the same machine. It, too,
autostarts with nothing found to cause the load. Any ideas? Thanks.

Could it have been done via a Scheduled Task in Windows?
Another possibility is that another (background) application starts that
requires Outlook to function properly. For instance, fax software.

Thanks for the reply, Roady. I didn't think to look at Scheduled
Tasks. I guess the user could have scheduled each application to
start on machine start. I'll check that out next time I'm at the
client site. I do know that no other applications start that require
either Outlook or Autocad.

Thanks, again!

If a scheduled task, it should be setup to start on logon, not on
Windows startup (since there would be no guarantee that auto-logon to
have Outlook load under a user profile).

WinPatrol is an example of where you can have it startup some programs.
For items that were originally in the startup entries (Startup folder,
Run registry keys), you can have WinPatrol remove those startup entries
and manage them itself. The reason to do this is to set a startup
delay so some disk-heavy or CPU-intensive startup items can be moved to
start a little later so you don't have to wait as long after logging
before Windows becomes usable to the user.

Starting up in Windows' safe mode usually prevents such utilities from
loading that manage startup items outside the normal Windows startup
locations.

Roady and VanguardLH, the two apps were being told to startup upon
user login in Scheduled Tasks. Thanks for your assistance in this
matter.
