The activation problem aside, has anyone experienced the following:
New messages show as being in the specified folder, Inbox etc. however, they
cannot be view there. They actually reside in the Unread Mail Folder,
however, any attempt to open this folder generates an error message causing
Outlook to send error message and shut down. Cannot retrieve new
messages........
Please respond. Thanks,
JERRY

I suggest you do the following and see if the problem is there:
1- Open your Control Panel
2- Click on "Mail"
3- Click on "E-mail accounts..."
4- For every account you see there, look underneath of the window, you can
see where the new e-mails are delievered. Click on each e-mail account, and
choose your inbox as your default e-mail delievery.
5- Click "Close"

Let us know if the problem resolved.

I followed your steps explicitly and this did not solve the problem. The
Inbox did show there was one new message, however, when I opened it there was
no new messages there only the messages that were migrated from Outlook 2003
during the install. The Unread Mail Folder showed two new messages and I was
able to open it utilizing right click, open in new window, however, no new
messages were there either....I sent a test message from Outlook Express, it
showed it as having arrived in the inbox but when I opened the Inbox, no new
messages.....I am stumped.

Please answer these questions with following these steps:
1- Which language is your outlook
2- File-->Data File Management , How many data files is listed here. and
what is their names?
3- Repeat the steps which I wrote in the last reply and tell me the excact
delievery address of your e-mail account.
4- Did you change the name of your inbox? if yes, please write what did you
rename it to.
5- Tools--->options--->mail setup--->Send/Receive...--->edit , click on your
e-mail account name, then look to the folder tree, which box is selected?

Thank you.

Do you think the fact that Outlook 2003 is still installed on my system would
cause this conflict

1) English
2) 3 Data Files : Archive Folders, Personal Folders, Winfax Logs
3) C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry L. Nickerson\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
(Personal Folders\Inbox
4) Did not rename Inbox
5) Inbox
thank you,
Also I just ran diagnostics and was notified there are 2 conflicting copies
of Outlook on my machine. On installation I selected to remove previous
versions, however, this action was obviously not completed. Would this cause
this problem?

Hello again.
Thank you for the answers. The answers helped me to locate the problem.
There is only two possibilities:
1- In answer to question number three, you wrote to me: "3) C:\Documents and
Settings\Jerry L. Nickerson\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst" This looks wrong
because "Microsoft\Outlook\" repeats two times. Try to open these folders and
check if the file "outlook.pst" exist exactly in that location.
2- It could be a conflict between old outlook and the new one. You also
wrote that the diagnostic shows there is a conflict. You can easilly remove
the old outlook. Open add/remove programs. Then click on "change" in front of
"Microsoft offcie 2003". Then Choose "Add/remove functions" (or something
like that, but not repair or remove). Then unselect the programs which
diagnostic reports as a conflict. and then click on next.
TIP: you can select advance installation, so you can keep some parts of the
office 2003 like styles or dictionaries.
Let me know if this helped.

I had exactly the same problem. Where I could receive, but not send any
mesages. I ended up deleting my old profile and recreating it. Works great
now.

Hope that helps,

Ok,
I uninstalled Office 2003 then moved my Outlook.pst file into C:\Documents
and
Settings\Jerry L. Nickerson\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook and now all is well. I am not certain why I have the additional folders however I am now going to delete them
Thank you for all your assistance

My problem was confusing, however it is now fixed thanks to help from an
annonymous microsoft advisor.
I had to uninstall Office 2003 but I believe the problem is my Outlook.pst
file was in the wrong location the pst file should be in C:\Documents and
Settings\Jerry L. Nickerson\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
I had an additional Microsoft\Outlook folder where the pst was located so I
simply moved the file to the above location and I believe my problems are
solved.
luck to you
