OUTLOOK 2007 BETA

Hello I installed Office 2007 Beta and the outlook was working fine. Then
suddenly out of the blue it says i get a message saying 'either there is no
default email or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging
request. Please run MS office Outllok and set it a the default mail client'.
If i go into tools to try and set the default mail client i get the message
'The opeation falied becasue of a registry or installation problem. Restart
Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, reinstall', which i've done
but it's just the same. If i click receive/send it eventually says ' the
file Exsec32.dll is incompatiable with MS office outlook'. Install outlook
again. Everything else works fine in Office but just Outlook and Outlook was
working hunkey dorey until this.

Any ideas/suggestions anyone?

Thanks.

Ziggy.

Hi Thor,

Unfortunately my Outlook 03 wouldn't work either. So i uninstalled all the
Office 2007 and office 2003. Then reinstalled 2003 and bingo i could get my
emails again....i didn't even have to set up the accounts again so received
all my emails immediately.

Shame really as i liked the Office 2007 but couldn't see what the prob was
and reinstalling/repair never fixed it and it had disabled my office 2003.

Hi Thor

Just read another entry and it says that you can run 2003 and 2007 alongside
but only one version of outlook...see entry for Office Pro 2007 by H.W. which
give instructions on how to load using custom install. It was only outlook
that i was having probs with everything else seemed fine so might give this a
whirl.

To everyone who is posting/reading this thread: If you had Outlook 2003
still on your computer after installing 2007, please let me know
a) why you think 2003 was still on the computer
b) what 2003 suite you had installed
c) was 2003 fully patched
d) how did you install 2007 (step by step if possible)
I am tying to reproduce this problem on a computer, but just cannot
figure out why some users are having it. 2007 setup should remove 2003
completely, but for some of you this isn't happening.

Thanks,.

Hello Patrick

I have MS Office 2003 Home Edition. I downloaded the patches for 2003 and
also the conversion to 2007 on the MS site and they wouldn't run. The error
message that came up was there wasn't something that it expected it to find
and it wasn't there. I keep all my software up to date and MS Office is no
exception so all patches were up to date.

I then proceeded to download the MS Office Pro 2007 Beta following the step
by step on the MS site which i managed to do successfully. Steps were hit
download, watch progress bar and then follow wizard for installing. During
the loading it said that it was re writing some registry along with other
progress reports. After loading i rebooted several times to test that
everything was ok and checked my email box each time after this. After this
2003 was no longer usable and i got the missing DLL file report. I assumed
that it had rewritten the programme and changed my shortcuts to those of the
2007 version and my emails were fine. I also ran Word, PP, Excel and Access
and all was fine. However, the next day when i logged on again i clicked my
shortcut and the error messages started. Again i ran Word, PP etc and they
were all fine.

I assumed that 2007 was installed alongside 2003, i suppose i assumed this
because in my Office folder in the programs listing 2003 was listed
seperately to 2007 software.

Just for info i have access to a Hotmail address and my partner a BT
Internet address and it happened to both and run on a DSL line.

Hope this is some help.

Ziggy.

Thanks for this!
What did you do in the setup wizard? Which kind of installation did you
select?

Thanks,

Oops, didn't type the first time.

Anyway, I have a similiar problem.

Outlook had some issues and mysteriously I came in yesterday and it was no
where to be found, no shortcut, no EXE, nothing.

My 2002 version of Outlook.exe is still there, but it crashes at start up
and I can't get into the Mail Control Panel app to change anything.

I did a repair on 2007, but no change. If I go in to modify my install it
says Outlook is not available.

Guess I am back to rolling back and re-installing the whole suite again.
But still not sure how it just up and disappeared.

Thanks.

Patrick,

I have similar problems. I had Outlook 2003 (Office Pro) with all the
updates. I am running XP Pro with all the updates also (ensured everthing up
to date before the install today). When installing the Office Professional
Plus 2007 (Beta 2), I had an error message telling me to shut the following
applications (none listed) so I turned off all spyware and antivirus
programs. Retried, didn't work, hit ignore and it finished installing.

Everything else opens and works fine (Powerpoint, Access, Excel, etc...).
When I tried to open Outlook 2007, I get Error: OLMAPI32.dll. I report it,
do the repair thing, and the how to prevent this from happening message
shoots me over to a update your adobe program (I have the latest Adobe and it
won't install since it is the latest version). When I checked the Outlook
2003, it sends me the following message: "Cannot start Microsoft Office
Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been
caused by installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook."

Should I just go ahead and reinstall Outlook 2003?

Patrick & epearson:
The first thing you should try is removing Office 2007 completely,
rebooting and then reinstalling it. If it still doesn't work, then you
might want to go back to an earlier version (2003 e.g.).
But, before you run the setup program for any earlier Outlook version,
you have to make sure that Office 2007 is completely uninstalled. So
before you try to reinstall Outlook 2003, remove 2007 completely, reboot
and then run the 2003 setup program. You can reinstall 2007 (without
Outlook) after the 2003 setup is complete. If you run setup for an
earlier Office version while 2007 is still installed, you are probably
going to end up in a huge mess that only System Restore might get you
out of it. Hence, please don't do it.

Btw, that blank window telling you shut an application is complaining
about something used by Windows Explorer. It's a bug in the setup
program.

Patrick Schmidt,

Well let me try that. I attempted to reinstall 2003 Outlook only. We will
see if I can fix that. I recovered my Outlook, but I could not send receive.
Hopefully this will fix it. (I did the delete mapi32.dll and fixmapi
approach.)

Thanks,

Patrick - here's another similar issue for your collection! When installing
office 2007 beta over fully updated office 2003Pro (11.8, SP2) on Windows
XP5.1SP2, I elected to install to different directory to leave the 2003
available as well, so was doing custom installation. Because it was not
possible to have 2 Outlooks, I elected not to install outlook 2007. Other
office products worked fine (could use either 2003 or 2007 version) but
outlook 2003 didn't, so reluctantly I then installed outlook 2007. Then got
the OLMAPI32.dll message referred to earlier in this thread that, like your
namesake Patrick's message sent me to Adobe for an Acrobat update. When
reopening Outlook 2007, I got the MAPI32.dll message in same way as he did,
so reinstalled Outlook 2007 which then worked fine, as did the otherr 2007
Beta products. Word, Powerpont and Excel 2003 also were fully functional.
This morning I uninstalled the 2007 beta using the uninstall function in the
download software (OP-PLUS.EXE). Following this, Outlook 2003 did not work
(other Office 2003 software was fine), giving the MAPI32.dll error message,
so I reinstalled Office Pro 2003 from CD. Made no difference, so tried a
detect and repair via Office Help: no difference. So used the FIXMAPI.EXE.
Did not work. Now I'm stuck! Would like Outlook 2003 back, what do I need
to do?
