Outlook 2007: cannot change highlighting in Search

I am using Outlook 2007 under Windows XP. When I search a word in my mail, it
finds the messages, but the word is not highlighted. In the "Search Options"
dialogue, all Indexing and Search options, including Highlight, are grayed
out. Desktop Search is not installed (I just do not want to install it).

highlighting is a feature of desktop search, so you wont get highlighting
unless its installed.
