Outlook 2007 closes when receiving a message

I repeatedly get a message that Outlook has encountered a problem and needs
to close. This seems to happen only when I receive an email, though not all
the time.

I've run diagnostics and repair inbox but that doesn't help.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you yet tried loading Outlook in its safe mode to eliminate the
possibility that some add-on you installed is causing the problem?

outlook.exe /safe

That loads Outlook but not any installed add-ons (or any COM plug-ins).
See if it is Outlook or some add-on causing the crash.

Thanks. Now that I see how to manage add-ins, I'll try removing them one at
a time and see if that helps. A recent one may correspond to when I first
started having the problem. Thanks again.

First use the safe mode to *disable* all the add-ons. If the
problem goes away, it's likely an add-on causes it. If the problem
remains, you don't have to waste time trying to narrow to a particular
add-on since none of them are causing the problem. Safe mode lets you
check very quickly if the problem is add-on related at all.
