Outlook 2007 Comcast Email Send Away from Home

i can't get outlook 2007 to send email with my comast email account at my
work computer (away from my home service). i've found several suggestions on
how to set up older versions of outlook and outlook express, but these
solutions haven't worked with outlook 2007. of course, comcast doesn't
"support" outloook and microsoft tells me to contact my computer vendor. any
help would be appreciated.

The problem is that Comcast's SMTP (outgoing mail) server probably doesn't
accept mail sent from locations off their network. You'll need to check with
them if there's a way to use it (authentication or something akin to that...
my cable provider does that)

Try using POP port 995 and SMTP port 465 (in advanced settings). That is the
same as accessing the servers via SSL.

Kudos on the 995 and 465 suggestion. I have Outlook 2007 on both XP and Vista systems.I began having problems with both types of systems sending and receiving emails, not just away from home or with different servers, but also with the "at homes" systems.

In several cases I was not able to send between Comcast accounts which had worked forever. Comcast washed their hands of the problem. As they gobble up cable companies (and maybe NBC?) they become more unresponsive.

If you check the "this server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) box on the Incoming (POP3) server, it populates the port as 995. Manually enter 465 in the Outgoing Server (SMPT) box and set encryption to SSL. So far it has worked like a charm (until Comcast does something else weird).

Comcast has Web access to your e-mail. Go to
http://www.comcast.net/home.html Click on Mail and login. Not as swift as
you have at home, but it works.
