Outlook 2007 freezes upon loading

For the past 3 days, Outlook 2007 opening page appears, but it won't fetch
mail and none of the control buttons on the page function; nothing opens.
Then I have to close it through task manager because the close button doesn't
work either. Have tried to open it multiple times, but it never successfully
opens.

I have Windows XP Service Pack 2. I have been using this Office 2007
software, including Outlook, for about 2 years. All was well until this
week. What went wrong and how do I fix it?

Try deleting the file outcmd.dat in the (usually hidden) folder
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. Does that help?
