Outlook 2007 - "has stopped working" on Vista Ultimate

Tony Massing

My desktop running Vista Utimate and Outlook 2007 decided to stop working
about 4 days ago. No matter what I do it launches and abotu 10-15 sec later
crashes with "Outlook has stopped working" and closes. I can launch Outlook
in Safe Mode and it loads fine. Here is what I have done to diagnose this
far.

1. Verified latest updates applied.
2. Ran Diagnose and Repair.
3. Created new profile.
4. Deleted pst files in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
and SRS files in C:\Users\Tony Massing\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook,
created a new profile.
5. Uninstalled Office 2007, deleted all profiles in registry under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles, deleted pst files in
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook and SRS files in
C:\Users\Tony Massing\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook, Reinstalled Office
2007, created a new profile.
6. Tried Repair Outlook from install DVD.

Ok, some updated progress.

I managed to open a folder before it crashed the last time and noticed that
the RSS Feeds folder was growing. It appeared to be adding the same folders
each time it loaded. I saw at least 5 copies of each RSS Feed.

Reading some of the other posts I disabled the RSS Feed update in IE and the
next time Outlook loaded in Safe mode I disabled the RSS sync in Outlook. I
edited the account properties and deleted all the RSS feeds in the data files.

The next time Outlook loaded it was clean. OBTW, I ran scanpst against the
pst files again forst. I removed all the folders in my pst for RSS feeds and
closed outlook. Of course, it crashed on open again. Similar Event viewer
entires as posted earlier.

Ok, last possible dynamic would be plug-ins. Since Outlook won't stay up
long enough to disable the plug-ins I uninstalled my only two plugins:
LinkedIN and Plaxo which I use all the time. It was painful....

Anyway, Voila!!! Outlook loaded clean. I am not going to tempt fate just
yet by reinstalling the plug-ins because I am so behind on emails. I will
post an update in a day or so.

BTW, I change computers frequently due the the nature of my job (IT
consulting). I actively sync my outlook contacts, calendars, notes, and task
between three computers and 2-3 profiles per computer. It you move around
computers a lot this is a great program. However, I will give you fair
warning....backup your data frequently as occasionally, about twice a year I
manage to sync the wrong profile or otherwise trash the content. Its nice to
just dump and reload everything and be back up in about 30 min with ~1500
contacts and ~1400 calendar entries. But I digress.

For now Outlook is running and that's what counts. It would be nice to know
if the Event log or crash error actually told you why it was crashing. Hint,
Hint.

I read in another forum that iTunes 7.3 added a service for iphones. Once I
disabled the "Apple Mobile Device" service, my Outlook started working again.
