Outlook 2007 is freezing

I stupidly bought Office Home and Student thinking it had Outlook in it but
it didn't. I was originally on Office 2000 which included it. Anyway, I
thought I would just keep my Outlook 2000 however I've found I really want
the integration. So I went out and bought Outlook 2007. I uninstalled 2000
and installed Outlook 2007. Everything went well and I set up my main
account. Then I decided to import my outlook.pst from 2000 so that I had all
my personal folders with my important emails. It started importing them but
then it froze. In the meantime it had also downloaded all the emails from my
email account (removing them from the server). I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling it but Outlook just doesn't work any more. It's freezing while
it's loaded. I have searched the knowledgebase and downloaded kb933493 that
is supposed to fix issues both with large pst files and where a calendar
entry might be marked private but this still hasn't fixed it.

I'm at a loss as to what I can do now. Any ideas? I'm on XP service pack 2.

First mistake was to import your .pst - simply open the .pst file using Outlook's File->Open->Outlook Data File. When you upgrade Word, do you import Word documents? No, you simply open them. Why would you think you need to import native Outlook data file(s)?
