Outlook 2007 launches the "Star"t wizard

I have a user (Outlook 2007 on XP SP3 - POP email).
Suddenly, when the Outlook icon is clicked, the "Configure Outlook" Wizard
begins.
As I don't have physical access to this person's machine, where should I
start looking for the cause of this? (It has been working OK up until
recently, so I suspect an XP update...)

Could be anything that could have caused this. Without any background and
history information it's hard to tell what is going on and any answer to
that would be just a wild guess. No update will delete your mail profile
though.

In either case, the mail profile needs to be recreated. After that reconnect
the original mail data base (pst-file) via;
File->Open-> Outlook Data File...
