Outlook 2007 NOT installed and Outlook 2003 disappeared

I don't know if I should ask this question here in the Office group or in the
Outlook group, but I've run into some interesting problems after I have
downloaded and installed the 60-day trial version of Office 2007 Professional
Plus on my laptop and my desktop.

First, on neither my laptop nor desktop has Outlook 2007 appeared! I
thought Outlook 2007 is part of the Office 2007 Professional Plus package, is
it not? Before I installed Office 2007 Professional Plus, I had Office 2003
Student and Teacher Edition installed on both my laptop and desktop, and that
I had two email accounts set up in the Outlook 2003 on both my laptop and
desktop. Also, I ONLY installed the first package of the two files that are
the package of Office 2007 Professional Plus.

Second, whereas Outlook 2003 has remained on my desktop after the
installation of Office 2007 Professional Plus, Outlook 2003 has simply
disappeared on my laptop!
What happened?
Once again, I only installed the first file of the two files downloaded as
the whole package of Office 2007 Professional Plus.

Hope someone can give me some info.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I went ahead to install the second part of the download, but you know
what? There is NO Outlook 2007 in that second file!

After installing two or three hot fixes for .net 2.0 during the installation
of the second file of the download, I was given two items to install: Office
Accounting 2007 AND Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007. Since I do
NOT own a business, NOR am I an accountant, I do NOT need to install Office
Accounting 2007. So this leaves me with the second and the last item or
choice--Business Contact Manager for Office 2007. But I was forbidden to go
ahead--because I was given the message that I must have Outlook 2007 in place
in order for the installation of Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 to
proceed!

When you think about it, it makes sense, right? :)

I have no intention to offend anybody by posting here. I just ran into a
problem, and was hoping to find an answer to that puzzling problem.

Thanks nevertheless, and still would like someone in the know to drop me a
clue!

As always, many thanks in advance!

If you had a previous version of Office/Outlook installed, you will need to uninstall Outlook, then run a custom setup of Office 2007 adding only Outlook 2007, which should show as available.

Thanks, your tip worked!

But here is the question: why do I need to remove an earlier version of
Outlook before installing the Trial Version of Office 2007? In my case, it
is Outlook 2003, which is part of Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition. I
did NOT remove Word 2003, or Excel 2003, or Powerpoint 2003 for their
respective Office 2007 counterparts to be installed on my machines!?

Why?

BTW, why I sincerely appreciate the tip you gave me, I do NOT like your
characterization of me or my asking the question as "furious head
scratching"! It is kind of insulting, even if you might have said it tongue
in cheek!

There can always only be one version of Outlook on your computer. It has
always been like that. The reason is that it uses certain DLLs that are
also used system-wide and two different versions would cause a nasty
conflict.

It's Milly's standard thing. Instead of having the computer write "xyz
said", it says that. It's inserted automatically into every single reply
from Mily.

My tag line is not personal as Patrick has already pointed out. I just find that most people who come to a public forum have already tried everything they can think of and are scratching their heads thinking, "Now what?"

You are overly sensitive to a generic tag.

In addition to what Patrick said about why Outlook 200x must be uninstalled, the trial version is just that - a trial. It will leave your prior version of Office installed (note in the installation, it asks if you want to install, not upgrade) and does not offer to remove them as the full retail version available in January will do. This allows for an easier rollback should you decide not to purchase the trial. As you noted, all of your other Office 200x products were left intact except for Outlook which must be uninstalled to install the 2007 version.

Happy holidays and bah humbug to you.
