...or do the repair installation from Control Panel | Add/Remove
Programs (or Programs and Settings if Vista).

I just experience this problem today after using outlook 2007 for almost a
year. I try to open outlook and receive an error message outlook not
responding. Windows will shut it down and look for the problem. I have
rebooted several times and am at a loss for what to do next. HELP!!!

I'm having the same problem, too!

As what? Please quote the post you are replying to.

After ~8 months of normal operation, and for no apparent reason - Outlook
simply doesn't respond on startup.
Like people here said - CPU usage shoots up, an empty preview is
displayed, and there is no response!

Has anyone solved this yet?
Should I re-install Outlook?!

Re-installation won't help at all - creating a new mail profile may. Control
Panel-Mail-Show Profiles-Add.

It just occured to me that the only "strange" thing that happened before the crash was me receiving a meeting invitation and its cancellation, one after the other.
These are the last items Outlook was able to download from the server (I know there are more - I have been able to access my account from a web-based interface).

I have had this problem since I installed Vista and Office 2007 on a new PC
well over a year ago.

I periodically check for a resolution but nothing works. MS never
acknowledges the problem except to advise against maintaining large files in
email folders.

But nearly everyone uses Outlook to store documents, so why hasn't MS found
a solution yet?

This just started happening to me a few days ago. I've been running OL 2007 for over a year now with no problems.

The only way I can get it running again is to delete or rename outcmd.dat. Once it's up, it's fine. But if I close it again and try to reopen, I get the same problem.

This frustrating!!! Does anyone have any good advice?

I am having the same problems - Outlook 2007 worked fine for a year when it
suddenly exhibited the problems others have detailed. I have tried all of the
reccomendations (including "repair installation" in the Control Panel).
Nothing helps! Any other suggestions?

I am having a similar problem. Outllook 2007 has suddenly stopped working. I
then have to close it down using Task Manager. Then I try to re-open it
immediately and then I can at least start it up in Safe Mode. However, I
STILL cannot start it up in "normal" mode. Any ideas, ANYBODY?

My recommendations since I had the same problem I found a way to trick
outlook into work properly. I am grateful for all the creative thinking that
the defected Microsoft products make me do.

1- Close Outlook
2- Go to the AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/ and cut and paste all the .pst
files over to a different location. (Do not delete them)
3- Make sure the AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook is empty.
4- Go ahead and launch Outlook again. You will be prompted to locate that
startup .pst file. The name of the .pst file may vary(i.e: Mymail.pst)
5- While the outlook file window is open go to notepad, create and save a
file with the name that outlook is looking for and place it in the
AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook folder
YOU MAY HAVE TO REPEAT THE PROCESS OVER AGAIN DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF
..pst FILES YOU WERE CONNECTED TO PRIOR TO YOUR PROBLEMS.
6- Once the file is created it will show in the Outlook open file dialog
box, select the file, if this is the only .pst file outlook should start
working again. if there is more .pst files involve keep on repeating step 5.
7- NOW, it is very important very important that you go and open the
original files that you copied from the AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook
folder as if you were linking to them.

I hope this solves you problem like it did mine. Good Luck

Thanx for the advice Stan. However, I seem to have solved the problem anyway.
I uninstalled Windows Desktop Search and now Outlook is working fine (I never
used Windows Desktop Search anyway!) but I will keep your advice handy should
the problem recur.
Thanx again
