Outlook 2007 POP3 Performance

I've just installed Outlook 2007 on a Vista Home Premium laptop. When
configuring the POP3 account (that is perfectly working on an Outlook 2003)
it is just too slow. For downloading 65 mails (955Kb) it's taking more than 1
hour. My PST is only 250Mb. What should I do? Help please!

Does the same thing happen if you run Outlook in safe mode? (Hold Ctrl when
you start Outlook.)

Yes, I have AVG 8.5. This problem in the same machine is not happening if I
use Outlook 2003. It seems to be a problem in the POP3 authentication method
used by Outlook. If I turn logging on, I see a -ERR problem sending AUTH
command instead of USER command.

Uninstall AVG and reinstall it without any email scanning.
