Outlook 2007 - Repeated Crashes - Please HELP!

C

Christina Dodson

All of a sudden, out of the blue, my Outlook 2007 shuts down on me when I
open it up. I have done the following over and over for the past 2 weeks, to
no avail:

- daily Virus scans with up-to-date software
- run scan.pst program (recommendation from forums)
- run scan.ost program
- registry clean (2x daily - 2 different programs)

- system restore back to certain date (before problems)
- complete UNINSTALL & REINSTALL 2 times!

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I rely heavily on Outlook, but am
at my wits' end trying to solve this problem. My brother even spent one whole
night on it and can't seem to find it. (BTW, I'm running VISTA - does that
make any difference?)

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

HI, Christina,

Is there an error message of some kind? If so, what does it say? Does your
mention of scanost mean that you're running Outlook in an Exchange
environment? Or... is this just part of grasping at straws and kitchen
sinks?

Here are a couple of things I would try:

1. It's possible that your mail profile has become corrupted. I would try
creating a new one. Control Panel - Mail - Show Profiles - Add, etc. Make
sure that you set "When starting... use this profile" either to the new
profile [for testing purposes] or to "Prompt for a profile to be used" so
you can choose the new profile. If this works in getting Outlook to start
correctly, there are several ways to copy/use your existing .pst file

2. It's possible that your Windows user profile has become corrupted. Try
setting up a new Windows user profile, and see if Outlook works correctly
from there.

I have the same problem and have done what you have suggested and it still
does not work. I do not get an error message it just stops responding.

(Are you running in an Exchange environment?)

Going to a brand new Outlook profile -- wherein the original .pst file is
not used results in the same problem? And so does using a brand new Windows
user?

When it stops responding, how long do you wait before giving up?

I would next look in the events viewer, under Applications, to see if there
is a specific error that Outlook is reporting when it stops responding.

You don't happen to have a huge PST file, do you?

If so, perhaps this might help (if not already installed):
