Outlook 2007 SP2 crashing when printing

Hello,

I have 2 users running Office 2007 on Windows Vista SP2 where Outlook 2007
is crashing (periodically) when printing emails.

I have pasted some of the event information below. On both machines I have
tried renaming the outlprnt file which has not solved the issue. The problems
do not seem to happen with running Outlook in safe mode. Office diagnostics
does not find any problems. We are using HP 4345 MFP printers.

Any suggestions how to resolve this issue? I have not tried a repair or
reinstall yet.

I think the only add-in for AS/400 download to Excel. We have not tried
deleting the OUTLPRNT file, but after renaming it, it is recreated.

When Outlook crashes during printing, a single page is output to the printer
containing the following text (there are some special characters printed
which I have not seen before and am unable to reproduce here without looking
them up in an ASCI table):

ERROR: syntaxerror
OFFENDING COMMAND: cvt . 1 < fpgm: `1 . <glyf fl , wL head

Stratch that part about Outlook add-ins. I was confusing our Excel Add-ins
which allow AS/400 exports to Excel.

Diane Poremsky [MVP]

None of those should affect printing or cause it to crash - however you can
disable the ones you don't need.

Its normal for outlpnt to be recreated. It sometimes gets corrupted though,
so deleting or naming will fix problems when it is corrupt.

This may be a printer driver issue as I replaced 2 workstations having this
problem and at least 1 of them continues to exhibit the crashing problem. The
user's default printer is an HP M4345 MFP with the postcript driver
(61.71.661.41). Perhaps HP has an update for this.

The user also has an HP 9000 and HP P3005 installed as well.

Well, I haven't done anything with the printer drivers on the server yet. But
I did however stumble upon a forum post that suggested the problem might
actually be a corrupt exchange mailbox. In those cases, the admin disabled
cached exchange mode on the client machine. Given we are already using
caching on our clients, I have disabled it to see what happens.

I have the exact same issue with Outloook 2007 SP2 on XP SP3. Same time stamp
etc.
I've only gotten it on one user, and we have several with the exact same
comfiguration (clones) printing to the same printer.
Removing Outlook PRNT file did not help.

Just diabled Chached Exchange mode to see if it makes a difference.

Any resolution to this issue?

I am also having this same problem on a Windows 7 Pro 64bit system.

I tried moving the 2 affected users to a new print server with updated
drivers which did resolved the problem for 1 user (although the crashing does
not occur as often).

Next step for us is disable the Outlook agent in Symantec Endpoint
Protection.

Can we get an official acknowledgement from Microsoft on this? Is it being
looked at?

We are seeing Outlook crashing on nearly 40% of our systems.
