Outlook 2007 on Windows XP Pro SP2

Ordinarily when an incoming message is sent to the Junk Mail folder, a
Pop-up Notification that a message was sent to the Junk Folder would shoe
and ask if I wanted to open that Folder. When I select yes, the Junk Mail
folder opens in a small window.

Recently, and sporadically, I no longer get that Notification message. The
messages, however, are in the Junk Mail folder.

The strange thing is that on the next opening of Outlook, I do get the the
pop-up, open the Junk Mail folder, and it's empty (as it should be because I
deleted the email prior to closing Outlook).

My anti-virus program is The Shield Deluxe and is enabled in Outlook.

I found this:
"Sometimes the installation of a Junk E-mail filter update causes the Junk
E-mail filter to stop working properly. Uninstalling the most recent
update, restarting, and allowing Windows Update to reinstall it usually
corrects the problem."
I'll try it and report back.

That didn't work. Now I'll try disabling the email virus scan from The
Shield Deluxe 2008.

Is the message alert only coming up once per session? It may be "by design"
as it can be very annoying to come up with every mail check, for anyone who
gets a lot of spam. (I never tested it as it's the first dialog I disable -
I know to check the junk folder often. )

And that didn't fix it, either. At a loss now.

When it does come up, it's only once per session. What I can't figure out is why it comes up on the next session after I have opened the Junk Mail folder and deleted the messages.
Like you, I do know to check that folder. Maybe I'll use your method and disable the dialog. Of course, then I won't know what is causing the strange behavior.

is the 'next session' after a reboot or just closing outlook and reopening?
It's possible that outlook is not closing completely and it's not a true
'next session' - check task manager when you close outlook to verify its
closed.

Not after a reboot, Diane, just after closing and reopening. Will check task manager next time.
