Outlook 2010 "Open Next Item" works inconsistently

I have Outlook email option "After moving or deleting an open item"
set to "Open Next Item" - however this option does not work
consistently: Sometimes the next mail item is opened, at other times
it does not. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening?

Did you ever find out how to solve this problem? I have the same issue and would be very grateful if you could help.

The problem for me was an AVG antivirus addin. Here is a fix that worked for me: Click "File" tab; click "options"; click "Add-Ins"; click on "Go..." next to "Manage COM Add-ins"; Uncheck the "AVG Addin for MS Outlook" box; click "OK". Hope this is helpful.
