Outlook 97 and Windows XP Fax

B

Bill

Hello,

I am running Windows XP Home and have installed the
Windows XP Fax software to use with Outlook 97.

I imported my old Contacts from my old computer (Windows
98) back into the new (Windows XP Home) and everything
works great. I can send faxs consistently.

The problem comes when I create a new Contact on the new
computer. Everything looks fine in the Contact and I
have made the proper changes to the dialing properties
(i.e. to dial area code and to add a 1 and area code in
from of a long distance number) but for some reason the
Windows XP Fax adds a 1 to my local numbers so the faxes
don't go through.

In summary...both Contacts (old and new) look exactly the
same and correct in Outlook but the old Contacts fax
correctly while the new Contacts don't. Everything I can
find is the same for both- why the difference? Any ideas?

I have scoured the internet including trying some things
listed in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Thanks!

Everything looks fine in the Contact. But, when I try to
send

Only Outlook 2002 and 2003 support XP Fax. Outlook 97 may not work reliably.
Are your fax numbers stored in canonical format?

*Hello,
We had this problem too. What we did is in the tools->dialing
properties->local settings for the area code put in a 5 digit number
( anything ). Then for the local numbers 1 is not appended. We really
do not know why this is so but it works.

Thank you

Setting a bogus area code can have some undesired consequences. Did either
of you try the supported solution first?
Details on how to use international format to invoke dialing rules are
