Outlook and Outlook Express troubles....

E

Emanuele

Hi there,
I need someone to tell me how to solve this.

(I have Win XP and Ie 6 on my system, both updated at the latest version)

I had Microsoft Outlook installed for a short time on my system, running
together with Outlook Express which is and was my default client. Since I
have uninstalled Outlook (version from Office 97...) IE 6 keeps
'considering' it alive and kicking... plus under the Tools menu, first line:
email and news, except for the first and the last option (read mail and read
news) it keeps recalling Outlook 97 for 'new message', 'send page'... in
addition to that some programs I have installed, do exactly the same thing,
reputing Outlook 97 my default client probably trusting IE 6....
I ahve tried deleting a bunch of files from the registry too, but without
achieving any result...
Do know that in Internet Options/Programs I have Outlook Express as my one
and only default program displayed...

How the hell do I get rid of Outlook's ghost?

thanks a lot
Emanuele

please trim better or top post if you are going to post a one line reply at the
end of a long post. Especially with the new webnews interface, it's much easier
for visitors to read top posts.

Emanuele - Did you try reinstalling or repairing OE? www.tomsterdam.com should
have the information you need to reinstall it and that might properly set it as
the default client. If you're familiar with the File association dialog
(Windows Explorer, Tools, options, file associations) you could change the mail
handlers to use OE, but it's probably safer and easier to just reinstall or
repair OE.

Hi Diane,
Thanks for that, I'm having some troubles trying to uninstall OE... and I'm
not quite sure what I'm supposed to repair as it works properly. I guess
it's got more something to do with IE 6 or the registry. The procedure
indicated on that site to uninstall OE seems rather busy. I'd rather go
through it if I should not find any other solution. Is it possible that
there isn't a key to disable or re-set in the registry?
Nice site by the way, full of interesting utilities....
thanks again
