Outlook and perfromance across VPN

Have a user running Windows 98 and Outlook 2000 via a broadband cable connection and the user complains about spped issues, takes 5 to 10 minutes to open messages. User is running Cisco VPN Client to connect to our Exchange 5.5 server, has about a 50MB mailbox running with an OST. Other similar users seem to be fine. User is connected to cable modem via a USB network connector. Everything else runs fine, including file transfers and PC Anywhere. Has anybody seen weird speed issues with Outlook and VPN clients?
Thanks

Try adding an entry for the mailserver in the HOSTS file on the client.
