Outlook Archive: Not Working Properly

T

Todd

I have a Windows 2000 network with Exchange 2000 SP3.
Recently, we've discovered that there is a "flaw" with
Outlook 2000/2002's ability to Archive messages via
File>Archive.

Here's the bottom line:

1) Outlook is only successful manually archiving when you
put in a date in the future (which of course moves all
messages out of the Exchange folder and in to the archive
PST).

2) When we try to use a past date when Archiving, the
Outlook Archive process does appear to begin (activity in
Outlook Status bar), but the end result is that no files
that clearly meet the date criteria are moved from
Exchange to the PST file.

I do have Office Administrative Templates in place in AD,
but nothing that I can see prevents Outlook Archive from
doing its job.

Calling all cars...I'm desperate. Any hints or known
fixes for this? Any help is graciously accepted.

What criterion are you using to determine that they "cleary meet the date"?
If you are looking at any date other than "modified date", then your idea of
how Archive works is flawed.

Thank you for the reply. I was referring to the date that
is entered in to the "Archive items older than" field in
the Archive window (File>Archive...).

I use Archive at home so I know perfectly well how it
works. My problem is that here at work none of my Outlook
clients seem to be cooperating with me.

That date gets compared to the modified date (not the received date) of the
item and if the item is older than that, the item gets archived. You can't
ordinarily see the modified date of an item.

Todd,

I came upon the same problem. Brian is right, it's the modified date
that is considered. You can display it in outlook by adding the
"Modified" field. In my case the problem was caused by the messaging
antivirus (Antigen) scan which apparently alters the last modified
date of the scanned items.

I hope this helps.

Hi Todd,

DId you ever get to the bottom of this? I have users having the same
issues in Outlook 2002 in AD. Not having any luck getting to the
bottom of this.

Anything you found out may help so please pass on anything you have.

Thanks
