Outlook asks for re-entry of password continuously.

Robert Emery

When using office, the system asks for re-entry of the e-mail password
continuously. This happens despite the fact that the proper password is
recorded and retained in the e-mail account file which processes a test
message correctly.

How do I avoid having this very annoying message continuously. Even after
entering the password and asking the system to retain the password via the
check box in the dialog box, the message continues to reappear.

After furious head scratching, Robert Emery asked:

I also tried the instructions at the support document and after doing the
following:

"Click Apply, and then click Yes when you receive a prompt to continue."

I received this error message:

"Registry Editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or
some of its subkeys."

Please advise.

Hello,

Having the same problem. I tried the support entry given, but it did not
work. It states that it works for 2003. It doesn't seem to work with Outlook
2007. Any other fixes?

You cannot save your Outlook 2002 password in Vista, because the
registry key where Outlook 2002 tries to store the password does not
exist in Vista. Either upgrade to Outlook 2003 or later, or live with
having to enter your password every time.

I'd love to upgrade. Can you send me a free copy?
I think it is ridicoulos to ask people to upgrade their e-mail program
just because it can't remember its passwords under the new operating
system any more. An operating system from the same vendor than the e-
mail program. An OS that most people having it now paid money for to
upgrade to. A problem, which the Vista advisor did NOT flag. It even
let an Outlook 2000 install pass. And that has even more issues. And
it's not like Microsoft couldn't know. It's their programs after all
that don't work together.
As far as I see it, Microsoft can choose to spend a little time making
a quick fix for this problem or really really create even more bad
publicity by forcing users to buy expensive upgrades to remember
passwords. Nothing else. If people would want to upgrade for other
reasons, they would have done so already. We are just talking about
saving passwords. How hard can it be to open the source-code, change
the storage of the passwords and re-compile?

Office/Outlook 2000/XP are out of mainstream support and only security updates will be supplied under extended support. Get over it.
