Outlook backup

I have read the info contained in
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm and I'm a little
confused especially by the terms "backup" "export" and "restore." I need to
replace the C drive on my computer and while I'm at it I will load new
versions of Vista and Outlook. I obviously want to save the info now
contained in Outlook and would like to save it to the D drive as well as an
externel hard drive. After the install of Vista and Outlook I would then
restore the pst file to the C drive. Reading the info in the How To Outlook
page, I'm not sure if I have to do all those items (backup, export and
restore) or just some and if only some then which ones? Thanks for any help.

Copy the .pst file to the D: drive and leave it there - easier for data recovery. In Outlook, use File->Open->Outlook Data File and browse to your file on D: - that's it, you're done.
