Outlook & BCM data files

I just bought a new laptop with the latest version of WinXP. I have
partitioned the disk into two drives, C: and E:, with the aim of using C:
only for programs and E: for all my data. I also bought MSOffice 2003 Pro,
which included BCM and installed it on the laptop. Now, I want to move the
Outlook and BCM data files onto the E: drive and get all my outlook data from
my existing laptop into this. (I use a cross cable to move data files between
computers). I am an experienced user, but not an admin, so get lost in too
mcuh of technical stuff. Can someone please help me with the steps?

You cannot separate the Office files & programs. All have to be on the same
partition. Just copy your pst file to the new computer and open it using
File, Open, Data file in Outlook. Do NOT use Import or you might corrupt the
file.

Thank you for the response. However, while using the tips from
www.outlook-tips.net site, it was mentioned that we can use the PST files on
any drive/folder. So, I am a bit confused now. Please help.
Besides, my old data is in the Outlook 2000 format. Is it compatible with
Outlook2003? Please note I use a POP3 account only. Some of my colleagues
still uses Outlook2000. Will they have problems in receiving emails from me?

Yes, you can move the .pst file to where you want, even to an external drive
connected by USB. And, your documents are stored in My Documents by
default, not a part of the Program Files. I have my Office files set to
store on a mapped network drive for safety and backup (I have a tape backup
that I run incrementally daily and a full backup on a weekend day.)

Your mail to the others using earlier versions of Outlook is perfectly
readable (note - do not put reminders on appointments or meeting requests
sent to OUtlook 2000 users). The file format only pertains to how YOU store
your items on your local or network drive and you want to use the .pst file
in an earlier version.
