Problem
Periodically (every 5 - 10 minutes or so), my Outlook application
"freezes" for about 5 seconds. While the mouse pointer moves normally, the
Outlook interface will not respond to menu clicks or button pushes. The
problem happens when there is no disk access going on, nor any perceived
modem transmit or recieve data occuring. I have not found any way to overtly
trigger the problem. It seems as if Outlook is awaiting some protocol
handshake to occur, or a timeout to expire.
The problem seemed to start after the Symantec program was added (a
year ago), but I haven't found anything wrong with the way this was done.
Any suggestions to help isolate this further?.
My desktop environment: Windows 98, 512Mb of memory, plenty of disk
space
Symantec anti-spam anti-virus and
firewall
