outlook browser question

I just got a new PC with Windows XP Home Edition. After
starting it up, I had no problem getting my email set up
as I was able to access my old PC email account settings.
The look of Outlook was new and I really like it. But
here's my problem, I wanted Outlook to open automatically
upon starting Windows, so here's what I did. I went into
Windows Explorer and copied and pasted the Outlook
Express Icon under /programfiles/outlookexpress/msimn.exe
into my c:/startmenu/programs/startup directory. This is
how I had done this in the past and it worked fine.

So, I rebooted to see if it would work. Here's where I
went wrong, it popped up and asked me about making
something a default mail browser? (really not sure of the
wording). I thought, yes, that's what I want. Well, it
wasn't right because Outlook express opened and it was
asking me to provide the same info I had entered when
originally setting up my email account. I quickly
cancelled out and it took me to outlook express, but it
looked like an older version, much like my old PC. The
Calender, Contacts at the bottom left were no longer
available. All my contacts that i had imported were gone
and all emails received were gone. It acted like nothing
had ever been set up.

Now, I'm sure I'm just panicking and there is a way to
revert back to the other look/version and all the stuff I
had set up, but I have no clue how. PLEASE, if anyone
knows how to, please respond!! I would greatly
appreciate it. If you need more info to help me, please
feel free to email me at the address I posted.

First, you'll have to understand that Outlook, Outlook Express, and your
Internet Browser are three different programs that don't have much in
common at all. Like, there is no such thing as a mail browser. I for
instance have only a faint idea what you're talking about and any advice
given would only be based on guessing. Wouldn't do you much good.

problem. did not know outlook and outlook express were

Sounds like you started to configure a new mailbox after
you had already done it. If you go so far as to recreate
it with the same name as your old, you may have to re-
import your information.

How do you expect Outlook to start when you've copied Outlook Express's
shortcut to the Startup folder? Outlook is usually in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Officexx\Outlook.exe. Outlook and Outlook Express
are two completely different programs.
So, I rebooted to see if it would work. Here's where I

Default mail program, not browser.
I thought, yes, that's what I want. Well, it

That's because you set up your account in Outlook and then started Outlook
Express, which had nothing set up in it yet.

Outlook and Outlook Express are different programs.
The
Calender, Contacts at the bottom left were no longer
available.

Outlook Express doesn't have a calendar.
All my contacts that i had imported were gone
and all emails received were gone. It acted like nothing
had ever been set up.

Outlook and utlook Express are not the same program. Setting something up
in Outlook does not set it up in Outlook Express.
