Outlook Cached Mode: New Message over slow link

Hi,

we use Outlook 2003 RTM on notebooks, which connect via VPN over a modem
link. When we use Outlook in cached mode, how long does it take util a user
sees a new message? It seams to take minutes... Is that time configurable?
