Outlook Connector for Lotus Notes Never Finishes Synchronizing

The synchronization process between outlook and the Domino server appears to never finish. When I turn on logging, I see that the server is always reporting 2 more messages to be downloaded than actually exist, and therefore the connector keeps trying and fails on each attempt, yet it thinks there are still 2 more messages, so it never gives up.
