Outlook Connector hangs on shut down.

Outlook Connector used to connect to a Hotmail/MSN/Live account hangs on
Outlook program exit or Windows shut down. XP SP3, Office 2007, all current
updates. Remove Outlook Connector and problem goes away. X-posted to
microsoft.public.msn.discussion because that seems to be the default Hotmail
group in English. Any ideas?

It's gone now. Are you saying it doesn't use Windows Update? Wait while I
download the current one and see...

Version 4, 11/27/2007, apparently the same I had before. After
reinstallation it doesn't do it any more. Go figure. Thanks.

With the recent changes in Hotmail, you might find that the beta version 12.1 beta 2 will be less likely to cause issues. If you
are not using a premium account and the old Msn Calendar in Hotmail, then the production vs. beta version should be mostly
transparent.
The version 4 download page has a link to the beta OLC.

Thanks, I'll try that. It's doing it again. With Connector version 4
installed, Outlook fails to respond to computer shutdown. The other day I
selected Start, Turn Off Computer, Turn Off and six hours later it was still
showing a window that said Outlook was failing to respond. Beta will be OK
as long as it doesn't do this.

Same thing with 12.1 beta 2. Main Outlook window ignores computer shutdown,
"This program is not responding". Can't believe they missed this one. The
program exits normally if I use File, Exit or window menu Close.

Maybe I'll send them an email support request. The Outlook Connector has a
"Contact Us" item. "Unlimited free support is available to MSN Subscribers
only." (For Outlook Connector) But I get stuck on the Product ID page.

"The product ID number you entered is not valid or is not in the correct
format. Please enter a valid product ID number and try again. Make sure the
product ID number is of the form: 12345-XXX-7654321-98765."

The Product ID reported by Outlook Connector is
"95120000-011F-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE". The support page is unable to
locate a Product ID automatically. It won't accept the Outlook Product ID
for an Outlook Connector support request.

What do I do since I don't have a valid Product ID number to enter?

I'd really like to report this using the free technical support available to
MSN customers, but the demand for a valid Product ID has me stumped.

I disabled Windows Live OneCare and installed the User Profile Hive Cleanup
Service. The problem still occurs. It appears to be a coding error in
Outlook Connector. I can exit the Outlook from the File menu, but it
ignores Windows Shut Down when Outlook Connector is running. If I choose
Close Now then Outlook reports later that a data file was not closed
properly. The problem does not appear to occur under Vista.

I said nothing about Windows Update, Earle.

You asked which version. If this program uses Windows Update, I should have
the current one. So happens I do.

You installed OLC beta or OLC production via Windows Update ?
Or via the link on the OLC download page ?
