Outlook Connector syncs with Hotmail account but only first time!

Hi,

I have downloaded Outlook Connector for Outlook 2002 so that I can view my
Hotmail e-mail account from Outlook. I installed it and entered my hotmail
details. The first time I restarted Outlook it worked perfectly - it imported
all my e-mails and I could send and receive from my hotmail account through
Outlook.

However after restarting the computer, it does not work. Everytime I remove
the account and add it again, the same thing happens - it works once then
never again after restarting.

When it stops working, the 'Sync Issues' log lists an error.

Also, when I try to send/receive I get a message saying that it cannot do
that.

It is clearly able to work as it does every time before I restart the
computer. Has anybody got any clues of what I should do to sort it out and
make it work even after I restart the computer?

Many thanks in advance.

The add-on specifically mentions which version of Outlook with which it
will function. Go read the download page again. OL2002 is NOT a
supported version. I tried it and had the same symptom. I wanted to
see if Microsoft was fudging on the system requirements for the add-on
and I could use it anyway with OL2002 although they didn't list that
version as supported. Nope, no go.

Thanks very much for the quick replies.

So there's no hope unless I upgrade my Outlook? :(

No version of Outlook supports the new HTTP/Deltasync protocol that
Microsoft is using (after dropping the old HTTP/WebDAV protocol that
Outlook and Outlook Express knew how to support). You need to add the
Connector plug-in to Outlook but it must be version 2003 or 2007.
Outlook Express is a long dead client (nothing new since 2002) so it
will never be updated to support Deltasync. Windows Live Mail (free) is
OE's replacement and does support Deltasync but it just does e-mail
(rules aren't as potent as in Outlook) and newsgroups. No calendar,
journal, notes, or tasks (but you could combine WLM with the free
version of EssentialPIM which is what I'm doing now).

Your choices:
- Leave Hotmail because it requires Deltasync protocol for freebie
accounts.
- Pay for Hotmail Plus. Windows Live Hotmail Plus re-added POP/SMTP
access back in November 2007.
- Use Windows Live Mail (free) as your e-mail client. Not doable if you
need the enterprise features of Outlook.
- Upgrade to Outlook 2003 or 2007 so the Outlook Connector works with
those versions of Outlook to add Deltasync support.

My use of Outlook at home was an easy choice because upgrading would be
money out of my pocket for a decision Microsoft made to facilitate
management of their HTTP mail servers and wasn't really for the benefit
of their users. I'm not interested in paying for a Windows Live Hotmail
Plus account (it's not my primary e-mail account, anyway). I like free
solutions. Windows Live Mail (although still late beta with some
quirks) and EssentialPIM are both free and give me what I want for local
clients for e-mail, calendar, tasks, and notes (I don't use the Contacts
in EssentialPIM since they're unusable for e-mailing in the free
version).

For work, you probably have to use whatever the IT folks tell you to use
for an e-mail client and which is probably Outlook, but then you
wouldn't be having to consider whether or not to get a later version of
Outlook since your company would handle that purchase and installation.
So it appears you use Outlook for personal use, probably at home. So
decide whether you want to pay Microsoft more money for a small change
(to get the plug-in working), look for free alternatives to e-mail and
PIM clients, or drop the freebie Hotmail account (pay for the Plus
account or use a different freebie e-mail provider that uses standard
e-mail protocols rather than Microsoft's intense bent on using
proprietary protocols).

I am using Outlook Connector with Outlook 2007 only. But it works only first
time too. Or it works just after fressh reboot of my XP machine. Does anyone
know why it works just once, which means it supports it but why once?
