is there a way to import a couple hundred email addresses from an excel
spreadsheet into a distribution list in outlook?

No. You cannot import directly into a DL. Nor would creating a DL of this
size ever be advisable.
Use something reliable to group these recipients. For example, import into
Contacts and create a Category.

I can recomend you to try Mailing List Services component from MAPILab
Toolbox.

Just save your file in CSV format and add addresses to the distribution list
with the help of Mailing List Services component.
