Outlook continues running after exit

Last week when I opened Outlook, the icon appeared in the Notification area
on the right of the taskbar next to the clock. Now Outlook continues to send
and receive mail even after I've exited the program. I'd like my programs to
close when I exit and it makes me nervous that it continues to run in the
background. The new mail icon used to show up on the right but I don't
remember the program icon showing up over by the clock. I have it loaded in
the quick Launch area of the taskbar but it shouldn't be in the Notification
area. I can't find a setting that will cause Outlook to shut down when I exit
the program. Any ideas or help? Thanks.

Since Outlook 2003, the Outlook icon is in the Notification Area when
Outlook is loaded.

OK that was it. I "unchecked" the iTunes add-in and now Outlook closes like
it used to. Thanks.
