Outlook does not completely shut down

Repeatedly, after closing Outlook (2002), when I click the
icon on the taskbar a while later, the program does not
open. I check task manager and find several instances
open, which I, then, close by ending the process. I've
attempted to determine why this occurs and have had no
success. I would greatly appreciate assistance from
anyone who can shed some light on this problem.

This is an old problem with Outlook (and Word). You'll find remnant
outlook.exe and winword.exe processes left in memory. Microsoft hasn't
bothered to fix it since I first noticed it 2 versions back. They
haven't fixed it in the 2003 version and one of the reasons I don't
waste my money on the upgrade. Some will claim that it is an add-in
that causes the problem but I've seen it occur on a fresh install of
Windows (from 98, ME, 2000, and XP) with a fresh install of Office XP.
Tis another cause of why my next "upgrade" of MS Office may actually be
OpenOffice (which is much easier on my pocketbook, too).
