Outlook does not format new phone numbers anymore. Why?

I've had this problem before, but still don't understand. I recently
imported all my old contacts from work. Now when I enter a phone number for
a new contact, e.g. 5135251212, it stays like that, not automatically
corrected/formated to (513) 525-1212.

Anyone have any ideas as to why?

Thanks for the help and advice.

Masking only works when the dialing location for the operating system is set
correctly.

Control Panel > Phone and modem options... > Dialing Rules, edit your
location and replace the "1" with your area code.
