outlook email failure

I had to reinstall windows and all programs due "corupted data base".
Everything is working except my outlook email I set up my POP account and
the test message worked. However when I try to “Send/Receive†I instantly
get this message: “The operation failed. An object could not be found.â€

I tried running the “repair†on the 2003 office disk then I did a reinstall
of Office 2003, no difference.

I am really a novice at this and am very frustrated, any help you can give
is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ken

What database corrupted that caused you to reinstall everything?

When you set up Outlook did you set up your SMTP server information? This is
the server that sends your email. POP receives it.

Thanks for responding. I have no idea, I did a reboot of the system and it
wouldn't start giving a message that data was missing. I called Dell and
they told me to reinstall windows, that my data must have been corrupted.

I did set up the SMPT information and did the test message and it worked. I
use "Wireless Sync" for my Palm Treo and email is showing up there but
nothing on my Outlook.

If you need to know anything else please ask.

Thanks
Ken

So Outlook is properly configured but mail is downloaded to your handheld and
not to Outlook? Do you have your mail set to leave a copy on the server?

Hi,
I guess I'm either not explaining it well or not understanding, sorry. I
have a host account that is set up to send email to my handheld and to
Outlook. More importantly if I compose an email using outlook I can not send
it.

In the email accounts screen I can send a test message but from Outlook
nothing will go. I just keep getting the failure notice.

Thanks
Ken

When you view the send/receive progress in Outlook, are there any error
messages and/or numbers?

K

Hi,
Yes, almost immediately after pressing send receive a small box pops up
saying "“The operation failed. An object could not be found.†At the
bottom of the box there is small white oval that says "OK" that when hit
simply closes the window.

Thanks

Have you enabled viewing the send/receive task window so you can see
everything that occurs?

K

Yes, I just checked and it is active but the system never gets that far, the
error message - “The operation failed. An object could not be found†pops up
immediately when clicking the send/receive command.

Thanks
Ken

Find your PST file and run a repair on it. The repair tool is called
scanpst.exe, you should be able to do a simple file/folder find on your
harddrive. Double-click it, browse to your PST file and run it repeatedly
until no errors are found. Make sure Outlook is closed when you do this.
Also, check your application event viewer to see if there are office or
outlook-related errors. If there are, post the event ID and source.

Hello Ken,

Added to the suggessions of Orland , please try some steps.

Create a new profile without the data and configure an e-mail account
and try to send an e-mail (support.microsoft.com >>>>287072.)

Configure the same e-mail account in outlook express or windows mail .
If you face the same issue , the issue might be with ISP.

let me know the status

Hi Kathleen,
First I wish to thank you for all the time and help you provided. I
followed your instructions and it repaired numerous things but didn't fix the
problem. My son found this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312354

It instructs to create a new profile which worked immediately and all things
are good now. Hopefully it is something you can use in the future.

I think it is great that a resource like this exists, just people helping
people.

Thanks Again
Ken
