Outlook.exe continues to run after Outlook has been shut down.

I run Outlook 2000 on Win XPHome. After running into problems with the
Outlook backup tool (before a recent crash and Windows reinstall, I used it
trouble free), I uninstalled it but the problem continued. After exiting
Outlook, the process list on the Task Manager shows Outlook.exe running, and
sometimes in 2 copies. I have uninstalled Outlook Express after
inadvertently activating it as a Newsgroup reader. So far as I know, I am
not running other programs known to conflict with Outlook.
Any suggestions?

OL has no newsreader capabilities. The default newsreader is OE, even if
accessed from OL.
Uninstalling OE may lead to problems, as acording to MS its an intregal part
of the sys, if indeed that is what you have done.
OL2K failing to close is a common problem. Ensure OL is updated, check for
any updated software if you use any addins, eg fax, sync software.

Thanks for the response. Apologies for the double posting. Don't know how
it occurred.
W. respect to OE, I had removed it as a Windows component using
add/removeprorgrams, and following your response I added back in, with no
apparent problems.
Have now determined that the OL2000 problem is a result of compatibility
problems between OL2000 (on my desktop) and OL 2003 (on my laptop). Problem
has apparently been resolved following the procedure in:
