Outlook Express 6 Won't Empty Deleted Items Folder

Outlook Express 6 has suddenly refused to empty the Deleted Items Folder. A
message says "some items can't be deleted; an error has occurred." Items can
be added to the folder, but nothing can be deleted, either individually or
as a group.

Open Outlook Express and from the Toolbar select:
File > Folder > Compact All Folders
