Outlook express 6

I have outlook express 6.0 and Windows XP (home).
I have no way of doing the spell check in my mail... it's
greyed out.

Now I know others who have the same system who somehow
get it to work...

How do I get outlook express to talk to my Word program
so that it can use Spell Check?
