Outlook Express Inbox showing year old emails, missing current emails

help, my Outlook Express 6 somehow deleted the current
Inbox emails thru August 2003 and reverted back to emails
from 2002, which I deleted long ago.

How does this happen?

Better yet, how do I recover the 2003 emails in Inbox??
