Outlook Express on Networked Machines

A neighbor of mine is running Outlook Express on two computers which are networked together. He said that his email would previously download not only to the computer connected to the internet but also to his second computer. So the Inbox on both machines were identical. He now says that the mail only gets downloaded to his first computer. It appears that Express doesn’t have a Data File Management option (like in regular Outlook) where you can specify where you want your Outlook data to be stored. If it had such an option, he could share the directory of the data file on machine 1 and have machine 2 point to it. Does anyone have an idea how he could make this work again?
