Outlook Express SLOW

My Outlook Express keeps getting S-L-O-W-E-R - I've
cleaned out deleted mail and other folders, downloaded
version 6.0 and done everything I can think of - but it
still takes EONS for the program to boot up, and 10
minutes to do a "swith identities".

I have Windows 98 on a Compaq.

Any suggestions?
