Outlook failed

I was using Outlook 2000 and Operation failed when I clicked on
"send/receive". I rebooted and when bringing up Outlook, Outlook would
not load with the same "operation failed". I've read notes that one
can change the Outlook profile by going to Mail in the control panel
and changing it by opening the dialog box...but mine won't
open...doesn't do anything nor give me an error message.
I'm not sure what the problem is, but by the amount of searches I've
run, it has been a continuing problem with all versions of Outlook. And
I've found no solution that would quickly fix this, without becoming a
programmer or an Microsoft certified ?...so I changed to
Thunderbird...and I don't even have to add-in anything to get a search
of the email...although it's not the same as a desktop search engine.
Given that Outlook would not run and Thunderbird would not / could
not find the Outlook .pst files, I imported them to Outlook express and
then imported from there to Thunderbird. Not all sub folders arrived
(?) but for the most part Thunderbird found all my contacts/addresses
and most folders...with nearly a gig of information in them.

If I didn't know and respect some of the Microsoft people that work
there, I'd probably say they are all looking for the NEXT best thing
rather than making the "Best" thing workable.

Please answer the following questions:
1- Did you try to reinstall the outlook?
2- Did you try to install the new 2007 beta 2?
3- If answer to the second question is yes, did you try to run the MS
diagnostics?
I also suggest you to do them if you did not yet.
Let us know of the results.
Thanks.
