Outlook fails to start - no mail-server anymore

I upgraded my computer form windows and office 2000 to windows XP and Office
2003 professional. The computer was fromertimes connected to a Mail-Server,
which is now not the case anymore. I found nowhere help to change the default
and after re-installing for 2 times still can't access and use outlook.
