Outlook folder won't archive

I keep receiving messages that my mailbox is over the 1gb size limit. When I
examine the box, the largest file is "Processed Mail" in which I keep
everything read and actioned. It contains over 5000 items
When I try to archive it, the archiving message appears at the bottom of the
screen but the same number of items is still there when it's finished. I
have tried checking the include items marked don't archive, but it still runs
the same way - what am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Check your archive settings what are they, is it using the default setting if yes what are those? Also, archiving is going to run off the modified date meaning if the archive is setup to move items more then 14 days old it will not move it if you took any action on it within that time frame even though it originally arrived 30 days ago.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for this.

Following the earlier suggetsion I have checked the modified dates of the
items stuck in the Processed Mail folder but they are all older than my
archive target date.

My Auto archive settings are

Run Archive every 7 days
Delete expired items
Archive or delete old items
Show archive folder in folder list
Clean out items older than 4 months
Move old items to C:\.....

Any clues?

I'm running Outlook 2007 in case tha makes any difference.

Thanks

Ken
