Outlook freeze when click on a LINK

In MANY cases when I get HTML mail with links to another site and I
click the link, OUTLLOK is frozen until the link responds. If it never
responds it is frozen for good.

OUTLOOK 2000 SR-1 9.0.0.4527
Do newer versions solve this problem. Is thresh finally a reason to
upgrade, or not?

What gives, can't Outlook spin another thread so this does not happen.
Thai is a REAL PITA , a really BIG PITA.
