Outlook hanging, taking forever to send

I'm experiencing a bizarre problem on some of my Outlook
2000 clients. It began about a week ago. Outlook hangs for
a while when started, seeming to take several minutes to
receive mail from the Exchange server, even if it is only
dowloading a few new messages. In addition, once Outlook
has finally started, the user can reply to any email sent
to them ok, but when they compose a new email and try to
send it, Outlook hangs for a good three to four minutes
before finally sending the message. At first I was only
seeing the problem on older machines running 95/98, but
now I am seeing it on XP machines as well. It seems
somewhat suspicous that it is slowly spreading, but a scan
from our NAV server shows no viruses/worms on any of these
machines.

I have just about ruled out any issue on the server side,
as the Exchange admin has recreated the mailboxes having
the issue on another Exchange server, and the problem
persists. It seems like an Outlook client issue.

Anyone have any suggestions?
